Lords Spotlight | George

Meet George – 92 Years young and a true Lords legend
If you've ever wandered through Lords in the morning, chances are you've seen George. At 92 years old, he's one of our most dedicated (and most charming) regulars. Being a member for nearly two decades, his routine hasn't gone astray - 7:30am workout, followed by his daily chinwag with staff and members, then it's all topped off with his cappuccino at the café reading the morning headlines.

George is a shining example of how staying active can be simple, social and seriously good fun - no matter your age. We recently sat down with him for a quick Q&A about his routine, his favourite parts of Lords, and a few rapid fire questions to get to know the man behind the morning workouts.

Q: How long have you been a member at Lords?

George: "Around about 20 years."

Q: What first brought you to Lords?

George: "My family. Some 20 odd years ago, I had my pipes replaced in my heart - and after that everyone said you must exercise. That was the beginning of it, and it more or less became a bit of a habit. And then of course I met some nice people along the way, which made me want to stay."

Q: What's your morning routine?

George: "A bit of fruit, maybe a cup of tea and then I come here [Lords]. This place is my starter of the morning - it gets me going. Then when I've come to Lords, I'm ready to function for the rest of the day."

Q: What is your routine at the Lords gym?

George: "Little bit of this, a little bit of that. I do the chest expanders, I do a bit of leg work. But nothing in particular, just the general "get me going" type of exercises. Loosen the muscles you know."

Q: Who's your favourite person/people at Lords?

George: "The coffee girls and the reception team. They're all very nice. Also young Elouise Buckley is also not bad - we get on alright."

Q: What do you love about Lords?

George: "You've got everything here, come on! You walk through that door - space! You've got your basketball courts, your group fitness studio - pilates and yoga, you go along and you've got the pool. If you get overheated you just jump in. Of course as well you can then have a game of tennis. You've got everything here - the biggest combinations of things under one roof."

Q: What's your secret to staying active and healthy?

George: "Force - my family is at me if I don't exercise or go to Lords."
